New Japan Pro Wrestling is gaining a ton of momentum in 2017, and their G1 Special shows in California last weekend may be a sign of things to come.

New Japan Pro Wrestling is turning into one of the most dominant companies out there in the wrestling scene in 2017, and their G1 Special shows last weekend proved that the audience is there in the United States to capitalize on.

The promotion put on two sold-out shows in Long Beach on Saturday and Sunday, featuring huge names like Kazuchika Okada, Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, and tons of other talent throughout the two nights.

The event was headlined by the tournament to crown the first-ever IWGP United States Champion, which eventually saw Omega come out victorious on Sunday night in an incredible match.

Now, between the sold-out crowds and the audience tuning into AXS TV for the shows on their televisions, the company knows what they’re working with. With the base there, it looks like NJPW may be expanding over to the United States sooner rather than later.

According to STRIGGA of Purolove.com, NJPW owner Takaaki Kidani spoke about a possible expansion after the events this past weekend, and said that they were looking to do something with a “touring style not later than March/April.” Along with that news, the company will open up an office in Los Angeles by the end of 2017, and will open up a dojo in the early part of 2018.

Omega delivered a speech after the event on Sunday saying that he and some of the companies’ other big names would be coming back to the United States, and it looks like all of the things he talked about after winning his United States title are now coming to fruition.
