NBA Rumors: Wizards officially receive Otto Porter’s offer sheet from Nets

The Washington Wizards officially received Otto Porter’s max offer sheet from the Brooklyn Nets, according to ESPN.

Otto Porter has to be a happy man right now. The restricted free agent received an offer sheet from the Brooklyn Nets that would pay him $106 million over four years. The Washington Wizards had two days to match an offer made to him by any team.

The Wizards made it clear that they intended to match any offer thrown Porter’s way, but they admittedly hoped it was for a more cap-friendly deal. Although it certainly wasn’t what Washington had hoped for, they officially received Porter’s offer sheet from the Nets.

Not only is the offer sheet worth $106 million, it also includes a player option and a trade kicker according to ESPN. Essentially, the Nets are really trying to swindle the Wizards and hope they don’t match this ridiculous offer to Porter. Porter was drafted by Washington with the 3rd overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Porter got off to a slow start at the beginning of his career, but has shown immense growth as a player the last two seasons. He averaged 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.9 3-pointers per game, which were all career highs. He also shot a stellar 43 percent from beyond the arc, and was a big reason why the Wizards finished as the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference.

Washington may very well keep their word and match the offer for Porter, but they do have another promising young forward in Kelly Oubre if they don’t. Oubre still has a ways to go to be as good of a player that Porter has become, but he’s certainly intriguing. The Wizards have until July 8, at midnight to decide whether they will match Porter’s offer or not.
