Donald Glover is in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but who does the multi-faceted entertainer actually play in the latest Marvel film?

SPOILER WARNING: If you don’t want parts of Spider-Man: Homecoming or Donald Glover’s role in the film spoiled, you should stop right now and turn around.

For some time now, we’ve known that actor/director/musician Donald Glover is in Spider-Man: Homecoming. What we haven’t known up to this point is who he plays in the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, we now have that answer.

Glover actually doesn’t play that big of a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. All in all, he may only be in the film for about three or four minutes. However, his character both plays a critical role in the film and is a nice little Easter Egg for fans of the comic books as well.

In the new film, Glover actually plays a small-time criminal by the name of Aaron Davis. He’s first seen by Spidey trying to buy weapons from Vulture’s henchman/crew. Later on in the film, Spider-Man tracks him down and interrogates him (hilariously) to try and find more clairification about Vulture’s whereabouts. Davis helps him because he wants the high-grade weapons away from Queens because he “has a nephew in this neighborhood”.

Now, here’s where Donald Glover’s role in Spider-Man: Homecoming gets fun. In one of the recent editions of the comics, Peter Parker is actually killed, thus leaving someone to fill the Spidey suit. That role is eventually picked up by Miles Morales. And who should Morales’ uncle be but one Aaron Davis, who is also the villain known as Prowler.

Whether or not that’s what the newest film is setting up, thus giving Glover a bigger future role, remains to be seen. If it’s that or just a nod to the comics, it’s a fun little tidbit to add to the move and the part.
