Wimbledon 2017: Women’s results – Second round
Taking a look a the Day 4 second round women’s results from Wimbledon 2017, including No. 1 seed Angelique Kerber in action.
The women’s bracket at Wimbledon 2017 was viewed as wide-open in a big way entering the tournament. With Serena Williams out of action due to her pregnancy, that left a free-for-all to transpire. And thus far — even only into the second round — we’ve seen that in a big way. That didn’t stop on Day 4’s action.
No. 3 seed Karolina Pliskova, a player many had circled as a possible favorite, was upset on Thursday. After winning the first set, 6-3, she dropped straight sets to Magdalena Rybarikova to fall and further how wide-open this grand slam really is.
However, the top-seed at Wimbledon looked the part on Thursday. Germany’s Angelique Kerber won in straight sets over Kirsten Flipkins, while Caroline Wozniacki also advanced to the third round at Wimbledon. Another relatively sizable upset did occur, though, as 12-seed Kristina Mladenovic fell to American Alison Riske.
