Bartolo Colon signs minor league deal with Minnesota Twins

SAN DIEGO, CA - JUNE 28: Bartolo Colon
SAN DIEGO, CA - JUNE 28: Bartolo Colon

It seems that the ageless pitching wonder that is Bartolo Colon has found himself a new team, signing a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins.

This is important because it is. No, Bartolo Colon is not done playing baseball. Yes, his half-year tenure with the Atlanta Braves went horribly, but he has found a new home to play ball in for the rest of 2017.

Colon has signed a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins. If and when he makes it back to the big leagues, this will be the 10th major league team the beloved right-hander will have played for. He is not done playing baseball, and MLB fans rejoice!

Colon went 2-8 in 13 starts for the 2017 Braves with an atrocious 8.14 ERA and 1.718 WHIP. Apparently he was just not built to pitch in hitter-friendly SunTrust Park, so Target Field it is. When he does arrive in Minneapolis, frenemy Ervin Santana will be waiting for him in the Twins rotation.

They were teammates with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim several years ago and had some interesting times when they were playing for rival teams in the NL East in 2014. Their rivalry was mostly comical, centering around outstanding pitching and two dudes that just don’t belong in a batter’s box anymore. With the Twins, they are just going to pitch.

Minnesota is having its best season since maybe 2010. To think that it has been seven years since the Twins made the AL postseason just sounds wrong, but it is reality. Under first-year manager Paul Molitor, the 2015 Twins were in the postseason mix until the final week. Minnesota reverted into a terrible baseball team last year, but has clearly bounced back.

You know who else bounces back? Colon, as he is the champion of big dudes that like to throw fastballs for a living into their mid-40s. Baseball got instantly more fun again now that we know which team Colon will be pitching for.
