NBA Free Agency Rumors: Indiana Pacers to sign Bojan Bogdanovic

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 04: Bojan Bogdanovic
WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 04: Bojan Bogdanovic

The Indiana Pacers are in rebuild mode after trading away Paul George. They’re now signing free-agent forward Bojan Bogdanovic to a two-year deal.

The Indiana Pacers are continuing to build their frontcourt after the departure of Paul George. Kevin Pritchard and the Indiana front office is turning to young big man Myles Turner as the new face of the franchise, while surrounding him with other inexperienced players to push this team into a full rebuild.

Now they’re signing a 6-foot-8 forward to help space the floor a little bit. The Pacers are giving free-agent Bojan Bogdanovic a two-year deal that’s worth $21 million, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

That’s a pretty good discount for a player that was looking for a more hefty payday. Wojnarowski also adds that the second year in the contract isn’t a full guarantee. The former Wizard has three years of playing experience in the NBA, splitting time between the Brooklyn Nets and the Washington Wizards. His scoring output has improved in each of his three seasons, starting from 9.0 points to 13.7 points per game in his third season.

Bogdanovic is a forward that can help space the floor for a Pacers team that can desperately use any kind of 3-point shooting. This past season, the 27-year old attempted nearly five 3-pointers a game, connecting on 37 percent of them.

The ex-Wizard has the potential to be a great role player in Indiana on a relatively inexpensive contract. There was the opportunity for a qualifying offer from the Wizards, but they retracted it, making him an unrestricted free agent. Washington also considered a sign-and-trade, but an appealing option never fully materialized for them.

Life after Paul George is certainly new for Pritchard and the Pacers, but they’re adding some inexpensive role players around Turner.
