MEMPHIS, TN - APRIL 24: Tim Duncan

Chris Vernon knows a bit about the Grit and Grind Era. Before becoming the host of The Ringer’s NBA Show, he had a popular Memphis radio show for years. He created the iconic “All Heart Grit Grind” Tony Allen t-shirt. As a member of Grind City Media, he covers the team daily. And his kids have only known a world where Zach Randolph and the Grizzlies were synonymous.

So now that Z-Bo has moved on, how are Grizzlies fans coping? To find out, Chris joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. In addition to discussing what Randolph leaving means, he examines the numerous question marks behind Mike Conley and Marc Gasol on the roster and weighs on Allen’s situation.

ALSO COVERED:

  • Does the lack of a clear heir apparent at power forward make letting Randolph go more difficult for fans?
  • With Allen coming off a year where he was a 2nd Team All Defense selection and led the NBA in steal percentage, would moving on from him represent something more than just on court performance?
  • How does JaMychal Green’s restricted free agency resolve?
  • Is having a daily podcast or a daily radio show preferable?
  • Which young prospect is Chris most surprised didn’t end up having a great NBA career?
  • Would he like to weigh in on some outrageous claims made against a vegan restaurant in Memphis?
