Romelu Lukaku, who is reportedly in the final stages of a move to Manchester United, was arrested in Los Angeles in relation to a noise complaint.
Everton and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku was arrested in Los Angeles in an incident relating to a noise complaint.
Lukaku received a misdemeanor citation, according to a Beverley Hills police statement. The 24-year-old was later released at the scene, and is scheduled to appear in court in October.
Lukaku has been in the news lately as the subject of intense transfer interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Blues, who seem intent on replacing Diego Costa, were thought to be favorites to sign the forward, before United took the lead in negotiations this week after offering Everton £75 million.
Chelsea’s late attempt to hijack the signing is understood to have failed, and Lukaku is expected to become a United player in the immediate future, possibly in time for him to participate in the Red Devils’ preseason tour of the U.S.
United are in need of a center forward after allowing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to leave on a free this summer. Marcus Rashford is currently the first-choice, a situation manager Jose Mourinho was obviously eager to remedy with his side set to compete in the Champions League again next season.
Lukaku and Mourinho have history. When the pair were at Chelsea together, Mourinho decided to buy Costa instead of giving the then relatively unproven Lukaku a chance in the first team.

After three years at Goodison Park, Lukaku is certainly proven now, and Mourinho has the powerful target man his system demands. Whether his arrest in Beverley Hills will delay his move to United remains to be seen, but it seems to have been a minor incident.
