WWE Great Balls of Fire 2017 result and highlights from the main event between Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe

Ever since Samoa Joe won the Fatal 5-Way match to determine the new No. 1 Contender for the WWE Universal Championship, he’s been sending one message after another to Brock Lesnar. Whether it was attacking Paul Heyman, jumping Lesnar from behind or just sending verbal threats, The Destroyer was sure to make his presence felt. And this all led to the title match on Sunday in Dallas at WWE Great Balls of Fire.

However, the bell didn’t even have to ring to start the match before the hatred and action was on full display.

After Jojo announced the challenger in the ring, Heyman took the microphone and began his entire speech. He went through the accolades and titles of the champion, Lesnar, as he does. Before he could get all the way through, however, Joe jumped the champ from behind. The action then spilled to the outside where the challenger put Lesnar into the barricade and then through a table:

After that attack, it certainly took the champion a bit to get back to his feet and into the ring. Once he did, though, he told the referee he was ready. From the looks of how things played out right after, he wasn’t. Joe jumped him again and kept him trapped in the corner on multiple occasions. Joe also locked int he Coquina Clutch.

Lesnar was able to break the hold eventually, and then took Samoa Joe to Suplex City with three German suplexes.

Yet, The Beast Incarnate was still hurting and the challenger locked in his signature submission once again. Even when the hold was broken, it seemed like Samoa Joe was still calling the shots — but then came more suplexes out of seemingly nowhere. After that string of Germans, Lesnar looked to capitalize. He got his foe up on his shoulders for an F-5, but Samoa Joe wriggled down and locked in the Clutch once more.

This time, it seemed like Lesnar might actually go out. His face was turning purple and he was dropped to one knee. But like any good Beast, he powered out from a dark place within and hoisted Joe back up for an F-5.

There was no escaping this one, however. Lesnar laid out his opponent with an F-5 and left him out of commission as he pinned him for the three-count to retain the Universal Championship.
