It looks like WWE already has the SummerSlam main event set, no matter what happens between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman at Great Balls of Fire.

It looks like the big match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman at Great Balls of Fire may not matter as much as we all thought it would, as it looks like WWE already has their mind made up for SummerSlam.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the current plan is to have Reigns battle Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam next month, regardless of the outcome of the Ambulance Match between Reigns and Strowman.

While it’s still entirely possible that Reigns can win the match and use that as a propeller for a Universal title shot at SummerSlam, it’s telling that Meltzer still said the match is set regardless of the outcome. We could still possibly see Strowman come out on top in the Ambulance Match, which would be an interesting situation for WWE to have to handle as far as working Reigns back into the title picture, if he somehow loses.

Technically, there is a very, very small chance we could still have Samoa Joe defeat Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire, and have Strowman and Joe battle for the Universal title at SummerSlam, with Lesnar and Reigns just battling in a normal match.

However, with how rumors have been swirling around over the last month, it’s incredibly unlikely that they wouldn’t have the Universal title on the line in the Lesnar-Reigns battle, and it may be a chance to get the belt off of Lesnar and onto a more full-time performer.

Either way, it’s telling to see WWE change course from their original plans to save Lesnar and Reign’s collision for WrestleMania, and it’ll be interesting to see where the company heads as far as a WrestleMania main event over the rest of 2017.
