Home Run Derby 2017: All-time records

Here are some of the records to look out for before the 32nd rendition of the Home Run Derby on Monday night.

The Home Run Derby is always one of, if not the most popular event of the MLB All-Star Weekend, and this year’s rendition in Miami should be no different with a star-studded lineup.

While the format of the event has changed plenty over the years, some of the records have stayed for a long time. Now, the competition features matchups in more of a bracket-style, rather than a big group of batters battling against each other.

Some of the records had looked like they could never be broken, but the new format last year brought some new life to the competition and some fresh blood to the record books in the process. We saw an impressive showing from Giancarlo Stanton last year, who obliterated Jose Abreu’s previous record of 41 home runs in a single event from 2005 with his performance.

We even saw the second-place finisher last year, Todd Frazier, launch 42 of his own to propel over Abreu in the all-time standings for home runs in an event. However, neither he or Stanton could topple Josh Hamilton’s home runs in a round record from 2007.

There are a ton of obscure records out there with the MLB tracking all sorts of statistics, but here are some of the main ones to follow this year that could find themselves getting shattered on Monday night:

Home runs in a single event: Giancarlo Stanton, 61 (2016)
Home runs in a single round: Josh Hamilton, 28 (2007)
All-time home runs: Todd Frazier, 91
