MLB All-Star Game 2017: Max Scherzer, Chris Sale to start
Aces from the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox will be on display at the MLB All-Star Game in Miami.
Major League Baseball’s midsummer classic is just a day away. On Monday, we learned which pitchers earned starting honors when the American League and National League meet at Marlins Park.
Chris Sale is providing the return Boston expected when they mortgaged the Red Sox farm system to acquire the 28-year-old left-hander from the Chicago White Sox in December. He’s 11-4 in his 18 starts this season and his 2.75 ERA is second in the American League to only Kansas City’s Jason Vargas. Sale’s WHIP of 0.90 leads the AL.

Only two pitchers in baseball can boast a more minuscule WHIP. One is Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers, the other is Scherzer. The Washington ace leads the majors at 0.78. He’s 10-5 in his 18 starts and has the lowest ERA in the big leagues at 2.10.
There is a real chance that this could be the matchup we see in Game 1 of the World Series. If that’s the case, it would be a battle of epic proportions.
The 2017 Major League All-Star Game in Miami will be the 88th meeting between the AL and the NL. The National League holds a 43-42-2 edge. The American League has won the last four meetings.

This season’s All-Star Game will be the first in 15 years to not determine home-field advantage for the World Series. First pitch from Marlins Park is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
