Rafael Nadal complains about sun glare at Wimbledon
As time wore on at the All England Club, the sun began to set, which annoyed Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
Rafael Nadal was in the middle of one of the longest marathon matches of his career when the sun began to set in London. In the middle of his match against Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, a glare ruined his vision at an important juncture.
The trouble arose early during a marathon fifth set. With the clock passing 8:00 pm local time, the sun was setting and their wasn’t much to be done on this outside court to help the player’s vision.
The sun would get right in Nadal’s eyes during his service motion. Timing is everything when trying to serve, especially at such an important moment.
Fans did their best to help out one of their favorite players. Some observers stood up to block the glare. Others donated scarves to block the source of the issue.
Later in the set, the chair umpire had to come down to see the problem Nadal was dealing with. The match lasted more than four and a half hours.
Neither player has been able to break the other. The slicing lefty serve of Gilles Muller has baffled one of the best returners of his generation. Muller hasn’t been able to handle the unpredictability of Nadal’s service style.
