TORONTO, ON - MAY 07: DeMar DeRozan

Toronto Raptors star guard DeMar DeRozan became so upset with a Drew League official that he threw a basketball in his direction.

There are many things that DeMar DeRozan can be mad at. For starters, he could be mad at the Cleveland Cavaliers’ current reign of dominance in the Eastern Conference. Second, he could also be mad that the Golden State Warriors currently have a stranghold on the NBA now and possibly for years to come. But, DeRozan is mad at something else. Or in this case, someone else. A Drew League official to be exact.

DeRozan is staying in basketball shape by playing in the Drew League, a summer basketball league featuring current and former NBA players, and also international and college standouts. DeRozan, who is paired with newly-acquired Golden State Warriors guard Nick Young, plays for a team called M.H.P. In a recent Drew League game, DeRozan became so heated with a referee’s lack of empathy he threw a basketball in the ref’s direction.

DeRozan by default is the team’s marquee player and according to this clip below, believes he deserves marquee calls.

The call that upset DeRozan happens around the 1:50 mark, but is this type of behavior acceptable? It’s the summer time and DeRozan perhaps thinks the camp counselors are made to be pushed over. Pull that in an NBA game, and he’d be taking a call from Adam Silver.

The bottom line, in this case, is it’s never okay to act this way. DeRozan is the most talented and wealthiest player on the floor. If this incident happened between November and June, a hefty fine would be directed DeRozan’s way. Hopefully, this incident won’t happen again for DeRozan or potential backlash could come.
