Honduras and French Guiana opened their Gold Cup tournaments with losses. Honduras was defeated 1-0 by Costa Rica. In their Gold Cup debut, French Guiana lost 4-2 against Canada.

However, French Guiana rallied with Roy Contout scoring in the 69th minute and Sloan Privat scoring in the 71st minute. However, Alphonso Davies ended any hope of a French Guiana comeback. The 16-year-old scored his second goal of the game for Canada, giving them a 4-2 win. French Guiana have to get off to a better start if they want to advance to the quarterfinals in their Gold Cup debut.
