After the departure of Wayne Rooney, Manchester United named long-serving midfielder Michael Carrick as their new captain.
With the departure of Wayne Rooney back to his boyhood club Everton, Manchester United were in need of someone else to wear the captain’s armband. Unsurprisingly, Jose Mourinho and the Red Devils have chosen Michael Carrick as the next captain of Manchester United.
While Carrick, 35, is showing slight signs of slowing down, he’s still a solid presence both on and off the field. Carrick provides his efficient passing, intelligent play and a composure that is undeniable. The composure and experience is an invaluable trait, and surely why he was chosen as the next captain.
When speaking on being handed the armband, Carrick had this to say:
"“It feels great and it is such a huge honour to captain such a great club,” Michael told us. “It is my 12th year now and I came as a 25 year old. I never thought I could be here for so long and achieve so much.“Now, to lead the boys and look after the young boys, to guide them in some ways, it is a nice thing and a real pleasure. I came to this club as a footballer and I am now a huge fan. I have grown to love the club over the years and to be in this position is very special for me.”"

During his time with Manchester United Carrick has made 459 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals during that time. Carrick made his Manchester United debut on Aug. 23, 2006 against Charlton. Almost 11 years on from his Manchester United debut, he’s now wearing the captain’s armband, and no one could be happier.
