The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Scott Laughton to a two-year contract extension. The contract will see Laughton make $875,000 next season and $1.05 million in the 2018-19 season.

The Philadelphia Flyers and 23-year-old center Scott Laughton have come to terms on a two-year contract extension. The first year of the contract will see Laughton make $875,000 and the second year of the extension will see him making $1.05 million.

Laughton spent much of last season with the Flyers’ AHL-affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. During those 60 games with the Phantoms in the AHL he had 19 goals and 20 assists to go with his 40 penalty minutes. Laughton has 34 goals and 35 assists in 105 career AHL games.

Despite only playing in two games with the Flyers last season, Laughton has already played in 109 games in the NHL to this point. Laughton played in 31 games with the Flyers during the 2014-15 season, scoring two goals and adding four assists during that time. He saw his game total take a significant spike the following season, playing in 71 games with the Flyers in 2015-16. He served as a solid bottom six forward, scoring seven goals and adding 14 assists during that season.

While his 27 total points in 109 games to the NHL at this point is less than what you would come to expect from a 20th overall pick, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, he does still have time on his side. And with vacancies opening up at the forward positions for Philadelphia, Laughton is expected to make the roster out of training camp for the 2017-18 season.

The one thing that doesn’t necessarily play into his favor is the rather bad Relative Corsi-For percentage that Laughton posted in 71 games in 2015-16. When looking at skater who played in 41-or-more games for the Flyers that season his -5.71 was 15th on the Flyers roster, only better than Pierre-Edouard Bellemare (-6.75), Chris VandeVelde (-7.64), Nick Schultz (-9.07), and Ryan White (-9.34).
