It should come as no shock that the Cowboys and Yankees are two of the most valuable franchises in all of sports.

Sports is a booming financial industry, and every year we are reminded of this when Forbes releases their most valuable teams list. On Wednesday, the 2017 version of the list was released and it won’t come as a stunner to anyone who’s sitting on top.

At the top if this year’s list at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, are the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. The Cowboys come in worth at $4.2 billion while the Yankees sit at $3,7 billion. Again, really an eye-opener for people as to just how much money some of these pro sports franchises really rake in. This is the second year in a row Jerry Jones and the Cowboys top the list.

It also helps that both franchises are in good positions at the moment. Led by two rookies last season in Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys won the NFC East Division and secured a trip to the playoffs with a bye. As for the Yankees, they’re currently in the middle of the playoff hunt in the American League, led by some youngsters of their own in Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez. When these two are at the top of their game, obviously that easily makes them the two most profitable franchises on the planet.

Looking at the rest of the top 10, what really may stick out to a lot of people is the position of the New York Knicks. They might be the biggest laughing stock in the NBA at the moment, but the numbers don’t lie and they are indeed the most valuable franchise in the NBA. They might not be close to getting things done on the court and their front office is in shambles, but they’re bringing in the cash — and to some people, that’s all that really matters.

But that is the 2017 Forbes list of the most valuable professional franchises in all of sports. Should things keep going the way they’re going, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Cowboys and Yankees sitting at the top again in 2018.
