Pokemon GO players around the world will have to work together to make the most of Pokemon GO Fest.

Pokemon GO has announced more details regarding what both Chicago and the world can expect from its first real-world event Pokemon GO Fest, happening in Chicago on July 22.

While the event will center around fest attendees in Chicago, players from around the world will be able to contribute to how the event plays out.

Pokemon GO Fest will be spaced into three Challenge Windows. During each window, players at the event will need to catch as many Pokemon as possible to unlock in-game perks which will not only apply to them but to every player worldwide. Different Pokemon types are tied to different perks, so players will need to decide which perk to focus on.

At the same time, players worldwide are encouraged to also catch as many Pokemon as possible in an attempt to extend the length of time those unlocked perks last. These caught Pokemon will also go towards unlocking a Pokemon GO Fest mystery challenge that is slated to take place during the last hour of the event.

If players in Grant Park are able to successfully complete the mystery challenge, they will unlock “an extra-special bonus” on behalf of Pokemon GO players everywhere.

For those unable to physically attend Pokemon GO Fest, the inclusion of a global challenge in which everyone can participate is heartening. However, we can’t help but think about the global challenges that Pokemon Sun and Moon players were asked to participate in. They fell miserably short of the objective not just once, but twice.

Are enough people still interested in Pokemon GO to contribute to Pokemon GO Fest’s accompanying worldwide challenge? Or will it also take three tries for Pokemon GO players to successfully take on any sort of collective challenge?

We’ll have to see on July 22.
