With the ESPYS taking place on Wednesday, the Icon Award was handed out, and it went to none other than legendary broadcaster Vin Scully.
If it feels like there’s just something missing from this baseball season, that’s because there is a huge void. That void being Vin Scully not being in the broadcast booth for the Los Angeles Dodgers. After 67 years working for the organization in both Brooklyn and Los Angeles, Scully finally decided to call it a career following the conclusion of last season.
The word “legend” gets thrown around a lot when it comes to sports, but that is exactly what Scully is in the sporting world, not just in baseball. As such, he deserves to be honored whenever possible for the efforts he put in for 67 years. Wednesday at the 2017 ESPYS, that is exactly what happened.
Being presented by Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, Scully was honored in Los Angeles on Wednesday night with the Icon Award. After being announced by Cranston, Scully delivered a speech to the masses, one which he started off with one of this signature phrases.

The 89-year-old Scully took the microphone and had us on the edge of our seats one more time, even with something as simple as an award acceptance speech. But, as we learned throughout the years, that’s just what Scully does. When he opens his mouth to speak, he has us captivated.

We all do miss Scully being around this baseball season, but at the same time, it is indeed time for the 89-year-old to take all the time that he needs in the world to enjoy life. He’s earned it after all the great years on the job, and he’s now racking up some much-deserved recognition in the process.
