Ricky Bobby should be the only motivator for every athlete, and it looks like Chris Paul apparently knows his Talladega Nights quotes.

Chris Paul obviously has a lot of expectations coming with him as he heads to the Houston Rockets this offseason, and it looks like he has the right answer for anyone that asks him about if championships are in his future.

Paul chose the Rockets this summer over a return to the Los Angeles Clippers, and chose James Harden over Blake Griffin to give himself the best chance at winning his first NBA Finals in his career. Now, it’s time to deliver.

In his opening press conference as a member of the Rockets, Paul was asked about challenging the Golden State Warriors in the stacked Western Conference, and specifically was questioned about whether or not winning a title was his main focus in Houston.

Paul decided to take some words for a wise man from a movie, and quoted Talladega Nights character Ricky Bobby for his philosophy on winning in the league.

“I think Ricky Bobby said it best, ‘If you’re not first, you’re last,’ right? Right?” Paul said. “Straight-up. We have one goal here, and that’s to win.”

Paul cited his competitiveness when he was asked about winning a championship, and said some may not view it as a positive when players are so focused on winning titles.

“Some people may say that’s a good thing, some people may say it’s a bad thing,” Paul said. “But I’m ultra-competitive, so there’s no reason in playing unless you’re playing to win.”

Paul has yet to make an appearance in an NBA Finals in his career, but he and Harden will have to topple the mountain that is the Warriors out in the West, consisting of a loaded lineup with Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, if he has any chance of doing so.
