Game of Thrones characters and their Premier League counterparts
Oberyn Martell – Alexis Sanchez
The first, and maybe most important, point of comparison with these two is their nicknames. Oberyn Martell is known as the Red Viper of Dorne while Alexis Sanchez is referred to as El Nino Maravilla, which translates to the Boy Wonder. I mean, come on, those are both amazing.
They both possess massive amounts of swagger and confidence and have proved many times over they can back up all of it. Both are extremely dangerous in attack and can win a contest pretty much by themselves.
Unfortunately for these two heroes, both of them die at the end. Oberyn needed only to finish off the Mountain to be victorious, but, instead, talked too much trash and ended up getting his head crushed like an overripe tomato.
Alexis, who has the unfortunate luck of playing for Arsenal, plays continually exceptional soccer only to finish in fourth (and now fifth) place every season. It’s much less than these two amazing performers deserve. But it’s nearly impossible to overcome George R. R. Martin and Arsene Wenger.
Jon Snow – N’Golo Kante
Both Jon Snow and N’Golo Kante were player of the year last season. Kante, after leading freaking Leicester to the Premier League title, was a major part of Chelsea’s championship run last season. Jon led a ragtag group of Northerners and Wildlings to victory, with a last-minute assist from Littlefinger and the Knights of the Vale, over the horrid Ramsay and the Boltons in the Battle of the Bastards. Rest in peace Wun Wun.
Both are amazing defenders: Jon of the realm and Kante of his back four. Both are comfortable joining in on the attack. Here’s a great Kante strike. Here’s Jon destroying a White Walker:
Finally, both perform at a high level no matter what side they’re on. Kante was great with Leicester and is great with Chelsea. Jon Snow made a convincing Wildling and was elected Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch by his brothers. Although they did eventually stab him to death. Thank R’hllor for Melisandre, am I right?
