A Pirates fan chucked a Cardinals home run ball into the Allegheny River.
Catching a foul ball or home run at an MLB game is on many sports fans’ bucket lists. Still, almost everyone knows that when you catch a home run hit by an opposing hitter the only option is to throw it back onto the field with all of your might. The tradition which originated in Wrigley Field years ago has spread to the rest of the league.
One fan in Pittsburgh on Friday night took things to a whole new level by taking a ball hit by the Pirates opponent, the St. Louis Cardinals, and throwing it as hard as he could into the Allegheny River. The fan sitting in center field who caught the home run hit by Jedd Gyorko in the first inning couldn’t get rid of the damn thing fast enough.
If the #Cardinals hit a home run, the most logical next step is to chuck it into the Allegheny river #Pirates https://t.co/VOVG6oNqeV

I don’t know who you are Dude in Pirates Jersey and Hat, but by God do I respect you. It’s not often you get a chance to see innovation like this at an MLB stadium and dude definitely has a cannon. Truthfully, throwing a home run back has become played out, but this move injects some new life in the practice. PNC Park in Pittsburgh does offer an advantage for fans looking to get creative when disposing of an offending baseball with rivers flowing by behind the stadium.

I have been going to MLB games for over 20 years, and have never come close to catching a foul ball or home run. If I do get my hands on one, you’re going to have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands. This Pirates fan, though, has me re-thinking things. The only acceptable way to get rid of a precious MLB baseball is to throw it as hard as you can into one of Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers.
