LAKELAND, FL - MARCH 20: Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow has had an impressive year in the Mets’ minor league system, but will we see him in the major league at anytime this year?

Tim Tebow has to be riding high after his walk-off home run for the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday night, but he might have gotten knocked off of his high horse pretty quickly on Friday.

Tebow launched a ball over the left field fence on Thursday to give the Mets a 5-4 win over the Daytona Tortugas in high Class-A ball, and has showcased some surprising skill at the plate in the minors the last few months. But, according to the Mets general manager, it looks like we won’t be seeing a jump to the majors anytime soon.

According to Sandy Alderson, the team’s GM, it doesn’t look like a Tebow call-up is anywhere in the cards for the Mets at the moment. However, Alderson did shoot some praise to the former NFL star when asked about a possible call-up.

Tebow is actually doing pretty well since he got called up to St. Lucie last month, as he currently has an impressive .327 batting average, with three home runs, 9 RBI,  and an 11-game hitting streak.

Meanwhile, the Mets are currently 39-47, good enough for fourth in the National League East, and don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon as they’re 12 games behind first place.

The smart play may be to pull a move like we saw in “Rookie of the Year” or “Like Mike”, and just call Tebow up to the majors in September for a few games to get some fans in the seats and people watching Mets games at home.

The team doesn’t look like they’ll be making a postseason run at their current pace, Tebow is still as popular as ever, so maybe the Mets should capitalize and promote Tebow. For now, however, the move just isn’t in the cards.
