Disgraced quarterback Johnny Manziel has had conversations with a couple NFL teams about making a return.
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel appears to be ready to make his NFL comeback. According to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, Manziel claims he has had a “couple” of conversations with NFl teams about making a return to the league.
“I know the situation that I put myself in. I know the year I took off and obviously the mistakes I made,” Manziel said. “Right now I’m hopeful. I’m really hopeful.
“I think that I made some progress in that regard. But we’ll see. Whenever I get a call, I’ll do whatever I can to make the most of it.”
Manziel’s mistakes are countless. From his issues with alcohol abuse to allegations of domestic violence, Manziel never seemed able to focus on football in the NFL.
And now he believes he is going to get a second chance in the NFL, while Colin Kaepernick still is without a job because of a simple protest.
This isn’t necessarily out of nowhere. Manziel had previously met with New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton during Super Bowl week in Houston. There was reportedly no real interest from the Saints.
The fact Manziel could get another shot in the NFL before Kaepernick is signed is absurd. Kaepernick led a team to the Super Bowl, while Manziel is staking his claim as an NFL draft bust.
But Manziel has reportedly been drawing “real interest” from NFL teams since March and nothing has come of it yet, so who knows if football in his near future.
“A ton,” Manziel said when asked how much he misses football. “I think the thing I realized over the past year and the thing I realized from being away from it is really how much you miss it.
“That’s all I’ve known for so long. It’s what I love to do. It’s hard. It’s hard sitting here going through OTA time and going through summer time and then getting ready to go through fall camp and not being a part of it.
“But at the same time, I’m really optimistic and hopeful that I’ll get another chance. That’s really what I’m holding out for every day.”
