MIAMI, FL - JUNE 15: Giancarlo Stanton
MIAMI, FL - JUNE 15: Giancarlo Stanton

The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly interested in all things Miami Marlins outfielders. Could the Cardinals trade for Giancarlo Stanton before July 31?

The St. Louis Cardinals are still a few games below .500, but haven’t figured out just yet what their plans are heading up to the July 31 MLB non-waiver trade deadline. One team that looks to be having another fire sale is the Miami Marlins. Are there any players that the Cardinals would like to take talent away from South Beach.

According to the MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, “[St. Louis Cardinals] are interested in Marlins outfielders, but no sign yet that Miami will deal Stanton, Ozuna or Yelich this month.” Giancarlo Stanton and Marcela Ozuna were All-Stars this season. Christian Yelich is an excellent player when he’s healthy. Do any of these players make since in St. Louis?

Yelich feels like a guy that could succeed for the red birds, but injury concerns have largely prevented him from being an All-Star thus far. Ozuna is a talented player in center field, but struggles with consistency. Stanton would be a huge splash for the Cardinals.

He does come on a huge contract he signed with Miami. Stanton is the face of the reeling Marlins franchise. He’d probably love nothing more than to lead the fish back to the postseason, but we have to expect Miami to dump salary before the franchise is sold by owner Jeffrey Loria.

Stanton would be the big bat that the Cardinals have been missing since Albert Pujols went to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim several years ago. The Cardinals love right-handed power hitting. Stanton would be a huge get for a major baseball franchise like St. Louis.
