The Nationals were dominant in the first three games of a four-game set in Cincinnati over the weekend. Washington outscored the Reds 29-11 during the first three games. Anthony Rendon hit three homers and drove in nine runs over the weekend, both of which were the most in the majors, and Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy each homered twice.

Gio Gonzalez and Max Scherzer continued their impressive first-half form with a combined 14.1 scoreless innings. Scherzer struck out 10 and allowed three hits and four walks in a six-inning victory Saturday in his first start since the All-Star Game.

The club also made a move to strengthen its bullpen by adding Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson from the Athletics. The pair combined for three scoreless innings in three appearances for Oakland over the weekend.
