The Philadelphia Flyers have signed second overall pick Nolan Patrick to an entry-level contract. This contract will come with the max entry-level contract salary of $925,000 per season.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Nolan Patrick have put pen to paper on his entry-level contract. The contract is set with the max salary for an entry-level contract, paying Patrick $925,000 per season over the next three years.

Patrick was widely regarded as the best prospect coming into last season, but injury issues caused concerns to arise. Having to sit out a good portion of his draft year after getting abdominal surgery, he wasn’t able to impress to the extent many hoped he could.

Despite only playing in 33 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL last season, he still showed what he was made of. Operating at just under a 1.5 point-per-game pace in your draft year, after injury and an extended time off, is massively impressive. Patrick finished the season with 20 goals, 26 assists and 36 penalty minutes in 33 games.

Patrick was well over a point-per-game player throughout his junior career. This includes the 102-point season he had in 72 games in 2015-16. And if the 6-foot-2, 198-pound center can stay healthy he is widely believed to be one of only two NHL ready players from this draft class (the other is first overall pick Nico Hischier).

Regardless of the  very minor injury issues, Patrick is a seriously exciting talent. Aside from the Flyers being happy to jump to second in the draft, they will be ecstatic to have landed a prospect the caliber of Nolan Patrick.

Patrick had yet another surgery, which is said to be a minor one, on his abdomen after the NHL Entry Draft. Luckily this doesn’t seem to be a major worry, as Patrick is expected to be back skating within the week, and able to take part in the Flyers training camp and preseason.
