One big question for every NBA team
How will Chris Paul and James Harden fit together?
The Houston Rockets have gone all in. They completed a megadeal to obtain Chris Paul from the Clippers just before the start of free agency, which signaled that they’re gunning for Golden State’s crown. Houston has also added P.J. Tucker and is looking for players that will specifically help them in a potential playoff matchup against the Warriors. The Rockets have made some awesome moves in an attempt to close the (massive) gap between them and the top team in the league.
Houston is ridiculously talented; it has two of the best offensive creators in the NBA and already had one of the best offenses in NBA history last season. The ceiling of this team will probably ride on the fit between James Harden and Chris Paul. How will Coach D’Antoni attempt to balance the offense between the two superstars and how will the stars themselves adjust their games to accommodate one another?
The potential for some clashes between the two stars definitely exists. Paul has a stubborn, often uncompromising personality and holds his teammates accountable for every mistake. Harden is more laid back, and hasn’t always worked his hardest during the offseason to say the least (the Kardashian curse strikes again!). On the court, both Paul and Harden are accustomed to dominating the ball. That will obviously have to change.
Both of Houston’s superstars are killer shooters though. Paul always brushes up against the 40 percent mark from 3-point range and might be the best mid-range scorer in the league. Harden takes a ton of tough off the dribble shots from beyond the arc and converts them at a high rate. He’s one of the best shooters in the NBA, even though his career 3-point percentage is just above league average (per Basketball-Reference). Their shooting abilities, and the shooting talent across Houston’s roster could make this an easier adjustment than it might initially seem.
