What is the total prize money that will be awarded out to participants in the 2017 British Open at Royal Birkdale?

The British Open is always one of the biggest golf tournaments each year because of the history that comes with and the beautiful scenery. This year, the Royal Birkdale at Southport will have it’s chance to host the event. The man that can master this beautiful course will take home the Claret Jug and a lot of money.

The winner won’t earn as much as say The Masters or U.S. Open, but it’s still a nice amount. The total amount of prize money is $10.25 million. The winner is going to go home with $1.845 million and a major to their name.

It should be noted that despite the tournament being played overseas, the money will be U.S. Dollars. Henrik Stenson won his first major at the tournament last year and he’ll look to capture that magic once again. Here’s how the prize money will end up breaking down.

After missing the U.S. Open, Phil Mickelson will make his majors return this week. Last year, he played an exceptional four rounds of golf and fell just short of Stenson in the end. He will be motivated to try and take home the victory this year.

There are also the heavyweights that will be looking to make a splash and claim a major this year. Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and others are trying to stay on top of their competition and will have to bring their best to Southport. If they do that, they’ll be leaving with a lot of money.
