30 most passionate celebrity college football fans
By Brad Weiss
24. Burt Reynolds – Florida State Seminoles
One of the greatest actors of his generation, Burt Reynolds may have never appeared in any movies had it not been for losing his dream of playing professional football. A star high school football player, Reynolds went to Florida State on a football scholarship, where he would become roommates with ESPN’s Lee Corso. His collegiate career started out strong, but an injury during his freshman season would derail it.
Reynolds was a halfback for the Seminoles and was actually getting some good playing time as a freshman. He injured his knee during that freshman season in 1954, and had to sit out the 1955 season. When he finally did return, he got in a car accident, which eventually was the final nail in the coffin of his aspirations playing professional football.
Still, he has stayed loyal to the school, and has used his celebrity to give back whenever he can. His love for football also has not wavered, as he was once a co-owner of the Tampa Bay Bandits, a team in the now defunct United States Football League. Though he appeared in only four games for the Seminoles, Reynolds is in the Hall of Fame, as he was inducted back in 1977.
It has been a long time since Reynolds has donned the Florida State colors, and while his health has been failing in recent years, he is still an avid supporter of the team. Someone who has loved the University for more than 50 years has to be included in our list, and Reynolds could not be more deserving.
