Round 1 of the 2017 British Open has concluded. A few golfers had a great first day at Royal Birkdale. Here is what the top of the leaderboard looks like.

Overall, the weather cooperated in Southport, England during the first day of the 2017 British Open. Rain is in the forecast for Friday at Royal Birkdale, but a handful of tournament entrants have played well thus far. Through Round 1, we have a three-way tie atop the leaderboard.

Americans Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka and Matt Kuchar all shot 65s (-5) on the day. They lead Paul Casey and Charl Schwartzel by a stroke at -4. Six golfers are two strokes back of Spieth, Koepka and Kuchar after Round 1. Those golfers are Ian Poulter, Justin Thomas, Richard Bland, Austin Connelly, Charley Hoffman and Rafael Cabrera-Bello.

It was good to see a solid first round out of Spieth, who has had his issues in the two majors earlier this year. He is coming off a tournament win at the Travelers Championship. With five birdies and no bogeys on Thursday, Spieth is off to a great start at Royal Birkdale.

Koepka is not letting a great performance at Erin Hills in the 2017 U.S. Open get to his head. The guy might win back-to-back majors for all we know. It would be really cool if he could pull it off. Koepka would birdie 8, 11, 12 and 13 before bogeying 16. He more than made up for it on the next hole by hitting an eagle on 17 to finish five under.

Kuchar was sensational on the front-nine, as he birdied 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9. He may have played even par the rest of the way, but his start at Royal Birkdale was terrific and has him atop the leaderboard through 18 holes.
