Just a little while after rumors of huge news involving Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze came out, he officially resigned from the program.

Hugh Freeze looked like he was in some serious hot water on Thursday night when a report came out regarding some job-threatening news involving the Ole Miss head coach. All it took was 25 more minutes for everything to unravel.

Yahoo! Sports’ Pat Forde reported that there was “explosive new information” that put Freeze’s job in serious trouble, and many speculated what exactly had happened. However, it didn’t take long for answers to come, and a final decision to be made.

According to a tweet from Ole Miss Football’s account, the head coach officially resigned on Thursday night after the news came out, effective immediately.

The move came down quickly after the initial report had come out, and the team immediately announced that Matt Luke would take over as the team’s interim head coach.

After the rumors began to swirl about Freeze, the USA TODAY reported that Freeze had used a university-issued phone to make a call to a female escort service. The call, which happened in January of 2016, reportedly lasted one minute, and became a massive legal issue for the school when the records came out.

The news definitely isn’t welcome for an already disaster-filled football program at Ole Miss, with plenty of scandals to go around over the last few months. The team is already on a bowl ban, which was put on the team by their own program, after plenty of NCAA violations, and this can’t be good for the future of the program after all of this controversy.

All of the issues surrounding the team led many to believe Freeze would be on his way out at some point this year, but nobody could’ve expected this all happening this early on before the season even got underway.
