Round 2 of the 2017 British Open has concluded. The Day 2 cuts were set at five over par. Who do we need to know that missed the cut on Friday in Southport?

The wind was definitely a factor during Round 2 of the 2017 British Open. After a decent day of weather on Thursday in Round 1, it definitely took its toll on even the best golfers in the tournament. Several guys were not so lucky and did not make the cut line at +5.

As it is with any major tournament, there are a few big names that did not make the cut after Friday. A few of these names really stand out. Two-time Open Champion Padraig Harrington barely missed the cut at +6. He wasn’t going to win the tournament, but this is the major he is best known for. It would have been cool to see him play on Saturday and Sunday.

Justin Thomas stumbled mightily on Friday. After shooting a great 67 on Thursday, he bottomed out on Friday by hitting a miserable 80. He finished at +7 on the tournament. After missing the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills for his daughter’s high school graduation, many thought that Phil Mickelson would rebound at Royal Birkdale. He did not.

Mickelson has exited his prime as a major contender, as he shot a terrible +10 on the tournament. Another golfer who couldn’t handle the weather on Friday was popular South African golfer Louis Oosthiuzen, who shot a +11 through two days.

Here are all the players that got cut after Friday in The Open Championship.

Not seeing Mickelson play on Saturday or Sunday in back-to-back golf majors is almost unheard of. One has to wonder if this is it for him as a major champion.
