British Open 2017: Updated leaderboard after Round 2

Round 2 of the 2017 British Open at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England is in the books. Here is what the top of the leaderboard looks like through Friday.

It was a windy Friday at Royal Birkdale Golf Course in Southport, England during the 2017 British Open. Round 2 of the 146th playing of The Open Championship is in the books. Let’s take a look to see who is atop the leaderboard heading into the final two days of the major golf tournament.

Alone atop the leaderboard is American Jordan Spieth. He is two strokes better than the man in second place, Matt Kuchar. Both were in a three-way tie at the top on Thursday at five-under, along with 2017 U.S. Open Champion Brooks Koepka.

Spieth shot a one-under on Friday to extend his lead and finish the day -6 on the tournament. Kuchar was one over on Friday and finds himself two back of Spieth at a solid -4. Koepka shot two-over on Friday and is tied with Ian Poulter at -3 and three strokes back of Spieth atop the leaderboard.

Richie Ramsay is four back of Spieth at -2. Then there are four golfers that are one-under par tied for sixth. Those guys are Austin Connelly, Rory McIlroy, Gary Woodland and Richard Bland. McIlroy had a great day on Friday, shooting a -2 on the day to be within theoretical striking distance of Spieth with 36 holes to play.

This could be Spieth’s tournament to win. However, he did collapse in the final day at The Masters Tournament a few years ago with the Green Jacket in sight. Kuchar is playing well at Royal Birkdale and Koepka doesn’t seem to be slowing down either.
