British Open 2017: Video highlights from Round 2
By John Buhler
Round 2 of the 2017 British Open is in the books. Let’s take a look back at some of the best highlights from the second day of action at Royal Birkdale.
We’re halfway there in the 2017 British Open. While the weather cooperated on Thursday at Royal Birkdale Golf Course in Southport, England, it most certainly did not on Friday. Few, if any, golfers really made a charge in the second day of action at the 146th playing of The Open Championship.
Atop the leaderboard all by himself is American Jordan Spieth at -6. After shooting an excellent -5 on Thursday, Spieth managed to only shoot -1 on Friday. If he couldn’t make a charge to extend his lead on Friday, the playing conditions had to have been terrible for the rest of the field.
Two strokes back of him in second place is American Matt Kuchar. Kuchar was tied atop the leaderboard after Round 1 at -5, but shooting +1 on Friday knocks him back to -4 on the tournament. He’s been one of the most consistent golfers at Royal Birkdale thus far.
The other guy that was tied atop the leaderboard on Thursday was 2017 U.S. Open Champion Brooks Koepka. While a +2 on the day knocks him back to third in the tournament, he is only three strokes back of Spieth at -3. With the way he’s played this summer, he could totally make a charge in the final 36 holes.
One golfer that really rebounded nicely was Rory McIlroy. While he did okay on Thursday with a 70 (+2), he did better than most in the wind and rain on Friday. He is a four-way tie for sixth at -1 after an impressive 68 (-2) on the day in the second round.
