Kyrie Irving prefers trade to San Antonio Spurs

Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers and has his eyes set on the Spurs as his next landing spot.

The NBA offseason is more entertaining than the regular season. No, I’m not kidding; Kyrie Irving has requested a traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Interestingly enough, Irving wants to play for coach Gregg Popovich down in San Antonio. With Tony Parker and Patty Mills handling the ball for the Spurs, Irving represents a huge upgrade.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Irving prefers to play for the Spurs if traded:

Could the Spurs actually pull off a trade for Irving? Better yet, will the Cavaliers actually entertain trades for Irving? San Antonio would have to get creative in a deal as the Spurs are already over the cap. Kyrie has three years remaining on his current deal worth $60 million. Tony Parker would likely have to go in a potential trade involving other young players from the Spurs.

Irving did, in fact, request a trade from the Cavaliers in a meeting according to Brian Windhorst. Then again, Irving’s agent Jeff Wechsler would not confirm or deny the trade request.

"“Kyrie and I had a meeting with Cavs leadership where we discussed many different scenarios in reference to Kyrie and his future with the team,” Wechsler told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “The basis of those discussions and what went on in those discussions are between the Cavs and us. We are respectfully going to keep those private.”"

Irving, 25, averaged 25.3 points and 5.8 assists for the Cavs in 2016-2017. Despite reaching the Finals three years in a row, it appears all is not well in Cleveland. Not wanting to play with LeBron James may have been the most surprising part of the report by Brian Windhorst.
