Strong winds are posing a challenge for golfers on Friday at the Open Championship in Europe.

As the second round of the 2017 Open Championship continues, golfers are facing a daunting task. Weather. In particular, intense winds. According to AccuWeather, the wind will reach insane speeds. The wind will range from 15-25 miles per hour throughout the duration of the round on Friday. However, gusts could reach up to 40 miles per hour at certain points.

In addition to the powerful winds, rain is set to fall in England as well. Shocker. Some fans have called for the round to be suspended due to the extremely poor weather. Although a suspension seems unlikely, that decision could change when the rain begins to fall. If that were to happen, the golfers would finish the remainder of the second round and complete the third round on Saturday.

Royal Birkdale Golf Club is not treating it’s guests well in terms of weather. Just ask Phil Mickelson. Mickelson concluded the second round with consecutive bogeys to bring his total to 10-over par. He will miss the cut after shooting an astonishingly poor 77 today. The cut is projected to be set at four-over.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy finished the second round shooting 68 (-2) today. McIlroy now sits at one-under par after two rounds. However, he is not the only golfer to play well today under the poor conditions. Zach Johnson, after a poor start shooting 75 yesterday, lowered his total for the tournament with a 66 today. Johnson is now likely to make the cut, but still sits one-over par.

While the weather conditions certainly have an impact on some, Brooks Koepka doesn’t mind. The American went on record when asked about bad weather stating he doesn’t mind it, the objective is still the same, shoot as low as you can. Koepka and Jordan Spieth are poised for big rounds as they sit atop the leaderboard at Royal Birkdale.
