Costa Rica and the United States face off in the Gold Cup semifinals on Saturday. Costa Rica haven’t lost a game in their last eight in all competitions. The United States are undefeated in their last nine games. This matchup lends itself to a fantastic clash of two consistently good sides.

The United States have had an odd Gold Cup thus far. They’ve won three of the four games they’ve played, with the one exception being an opening game draw against Panama. This culminated with the roster being bolstered after the group stage with veterans the likes of Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Darlington Nagbe and goalkeepers Tim Howard and Jesse Gonzalez. The new additions created difficulty for the starting lineup to consistently play well offensively against El Salvador. The team had problems putting together cohesive offensive possessions.

Costa Rica have been impressive in their Gold Cup games. They’ve only dropped points with a 1-1 draw against Canada. Their performances haven’t been against team’s the caliber of the United State’s, but their consistency defensively should enable them to compete well against the United State’s odd offensive performances in the Gold Cup.
