Chris Froome wins 2017 Tour de France
By Jack Crosby
The long journey of the 2017 Tour de France has come to a close and Chris Froome has added to his legacy in the event.
Heading into Saturday, following the success he had on Saturday at the time trials in Marseille, it was expected that Chris Froome would add to his legacy with yet another Tour de France title. He held a 54-second lead over Rigoberto Eran entering the 21st and final stage on Sunday, meaning that the glory was once again his for the taking, barring a catastrophe.
Well, there were no catastrophes during the final stage on Sunday, as Froome crossed the finish line in Paris and earned himself the fourth Tour de France title of his career. It’s not a Lance Armstrong-type streak by any means, but impressive nonetheless for one of the most grueling sporting events in history.
In addition to this being the fourth title in five years for Froome, he has also cemented himself as the first four-time winner of the event for Great Britain. Froome has quickly become one of the country’s most notable athletes, and this historic victory on Sunday just adds to that.
With this one in the books now, all eyes will turn to next year to see whether or not Froome could join the exclusive five-time winners club. If the performance this year was any indication, he’s showing really no signs of slowing down and can come away with yet another one next year.
Here is a look at the official standings of the 2017 Tour de France, with Froome of course sitting right at the top of the list.
The 2018 Tour de France will begin on July 7, which is when everyone will tune in to see if Froome can add to his accomplished list at the Tour de France event.
