During Chelsea’s 3-0 rout of Arsenal in China, winger Pedro collided with Arsenal keeper David Opsina and fractured multiple bones in his face.
First, it was Eden Hazard fracturing his ankle in the closing moments of a training session with Belgium. Now, it’s Pedro getting punched in the face in a preseason game. Chelsea just can’t catch a break. Thankfully, both players will be healthy and more than ready for the upcoming season, which kicks off on Friday, Aug. 11.

Pedro was a vital piece in the Chelsea machine that brought the Premier League title to Stamford Bridge for the second time in three years last season. Luckily for Chelsea, he should return to training in 10 days. Although that does put him out for several games, it may not be all that terrible. His absence will allow Conte to give some younger players time on the pitch.
In Pedro’s place, Jeremie Boga came in and impressed. This could be the opportunity Boga has been waiting for. In addition, Charly Musonda (who spent last season on loan with Real Betis) is in the wings waiting to pounce on his opportunity. Chelsea have a number of youngsters that are chomping at the bit to prove themselves.
Missing out on preseason is never ideal, but missing 10 days shouldn’t prevent Pedro from being ready when the season starts. Hazard’s injury may be more concerning. The Belgian only just started training with a ball again, and may not be fully match fit when the season kicks off.

Pedro’s collision with Ospina was unlucky, but it’s part of the game. He will recover quickly and will be back to playing in no time. He may be a little hesitant to throw his head around for a while, but confidence will come back with time.
