We’re right around the trade deadline in MLB, and now the Minnesota Twins are acquiring Jaime Garcia and Anthony Recker from the Atlanta Braves.

The MLB Trade Deadline is approaching quickly and certain teams are trying to buy their way into the playoffs, while others are trying to sell away players for future assets.

In the AL Central, the Minnesota Twins are in a decent spot. With nearly 65 games left in their season, the Twins are one game over .500 at 49-48. They may be in third place in the division, but they’re only 2.5 games out of first place, chasing the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals.

The Twins have been looking to add some depth to their starting rotation and might have finally done so, after a failed physical delayed a reported trade. Per Twins’ beat reporter Rhett Bollinger, the Atlanta Braves will send Jaime Garcia and Anthony Recker to the Twins in exchange for Huascar Ynoa.

The Twins later confirmed the deal on Twitter.

As Bollinger notes in his tweet, the reported trade that originated a few days ago had the Twins sending Nick Burdi, who failed a physical due to a Tommy John surgery in the past. But not to worry, as the Twins sent another prospect in Ynoa to the Braves to make it all work.

Obviously, the key piece of the trade is Garcia, who’s heading into the final year of his contract with Atlanta. With the Braves struggling, it made sense to move him, especially when he’s been pitching so well lately.

In 18 starts this past season, Garcia has a 4.30 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 41 walks. He’s been a solid, veteran pitcher that has postseason experience and can definitely help the Twins out. He was fantastic in his last start against the Dodgers on Friday night. He’s hoping to carry some of that magic to the Twin cities.
