AL Wild Card Standings

New York Yankees (51-46, .526, +1)

The Yankees closed the week strong by winning three of four games against the Mariners in Seattle. New York is just 2.5 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East, but holds just a one-game edge over the Rays in both the division and the Wild Card standings.

Luis Severino and C.C. Sabathia continued their good work in the starting rotation last week, and each picked up a win for the Yankees. Tommy Kahnle tossed three perfect innings in his first three appearances with his new club.

Tampa Bay Rays (50-47, .515, – GB)

Kansas City Royals (51-48, .515, – GB)

Tampa Bay has lost four in a row, including a weekend sweep at the hands of the Texas Rangers, all of which were decided by two runs or less. The rough patch allowed the Kansas City Royals, winners of five in a row, to charge into a tie for the second Wild Card spot.

Minnesota Twins (49-48, .505, 1 GB)

Los Angeles Angels (49-51, .490, 2.5 GB)

Seattle Mariners (49-51, .490, 2.5 GB)

Texas Rangers (48-50, .490, 2.5 GB)

Baltimore Orioles (47-51, .480, 3.5 GB)

Detroit Tigers (45-52, .464, 5 GB)

Oakland Athletics (44-54, .449, 6.5 GB)

Toronto Blue Jays (44-54, .449, 6.5 GB)

Chicago White Sox (38-57, .400, 11 GB)

The AL Wild Card race is still wide open, but we can count out the Chicago White Sox. Clearly looking ahead to 2018 and beyond, the White Sox have been active in the July trade market, and have moved on from some of their best players. Perhaps not coincidentally, the White Sox have also lost nine straight games.
