AJ Styles bounced back quickly from his loss on Sunday night at Battleground to Kevin Owens, as he regained the United States title on SmackDown on Tuesday.

AJ Styles didn’t have much luck in his first title defense against Kevin Owens on Sunday night at Battleground, but he managed to recover from the loss relatively quickly for his Triple Threat match on SmackDown.

Styles lost the belt to Owens in a controversial finish just two nights prior, but got his rematch after Shane McMahon announced that Owens would defend his belt against Styles and a returning Chris Jericho earlier in the show, who both had rightful rematches for the title.

Styles squeaked out the victory after Owens delivered a pop-up powerbomb and a frog splash on Jericho, and Styles threw KO out of the ring to steal the pin.

The win gives Styles his second United States title win in the last month, just a few weeks after he took home the title at the Madison Square Garden house show against Owens.

A livid Owens quickly got on the microphone to say how unfair the situation was, and told Styles that he would be invoking his rematch clause on SmackDown next Tuesday night, on a card that already features John Cena battling Shinsuke Nakamura for a chance at Jinder Mahal’s WWE title at SummerSlam.

With SummerSlam just a few weeks away at this point, and Jericho seemingly back for the ride, we still don’t know what the picture looks like for the United States title match at this point for the Biggest Party of the Summer.

With this game of Hot Potato going on between Owens and Styles, we could see multiple more title changes over the next few weeks if things stay at their current pace.
