Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive back Jourdan Lewis was found not guilty Tuesday on a domestic violence charge.
It’s been quite the week for the Dallas Cowboys and legal issues, but they did get a bit of positive news on Tuesday. Just two days into his trial on a domestic violence charge, defensive back Jourdan Lewis was found not guilty. Lewis, a third-round pick out of Michigan during the most recent NFL Draft, was accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the neck back in March and tossing her to the ground.
The Cowboys starting their 2017 training camp in California this week, so now they’ll be able to add the rookie to the fold soon so they could get him to work.
Lewis spent four years in Ann Arbor for the Wolverines, earning himself a reputation as one of the most prolific defensive backs in the country. Throughout his career, Lewis tallied 135 tackles including 8.5 for loss with six interceptions. Despite the legal issues, the Cowboys took a chance on him in the third round and soon we’ll see how much he can produce for his new team.
This is just the latest legal saga to hit the Cowboys this week, although this one involving Lewis isn’t quite as complicated as the one involving former wide receiver Lucky Whitehead. The team cut Whitehead on Monday under the assumption that he was arrested for shoplifting back in June, but in a weird turn of events, it turns out the whole thing was a case of mistaken identity. Tuesday we would all learn the person arrested in Virginia was in fact not Whitehead, rather someone assuming the identity using the wide receiver’s personal information.

Then, of course, there is the cloud hanging over the team with the NFL looking into star running back Ezekiel Elliott and domestic violence accusations of his own.
But in the case of Lewis, he was found not guilty on Tuesday and can begin work on his NFL career.
