Reports have emerged that Kylian Mbappe is on the verge of a move from Monaco to Real Madrid for 180 million Euros.

The Spanish sports paper Marca is reporting that Real Madrid have agreed a fee of 180 million Euros with Monaco for the transfer of Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester United reportedly made a £72 million bid two months ago, but this would blow that away comfortably. It was reported at that time that Mbappe’s preferred destination was Real in any case. The agreed fee is due to be made up of 160 million Euros up front, with a further 20 million dependent upon various add-ons.

The French international teenager is widely sought after. His phenomenal goalscoring record last season explains why. He scored 15 league goals in 2016-17, and no other teenager in Europe’s top five leagues scored more than five.

Mbappe also bagged six Champions League goals, when the rest of the continent’s teens scored three between them. You can see why he would be such an important signing for any big club.

A move to Real would be an interesting career choice by Mbappe. As talented as he undoubtedly is, would he get enough time on the pitch? He’s unlikely to be an immediate first choice, even at that price. Spending time on the bench may stunt his development.

Real are not known for giving youth a chance. No teenagers appeared for them in La Liga last season. Very few teenagers in history have been good as Mbappe though.

Transfer spending is undoubtedly going crazy this summer. PSG are reportedly going to fork out $257 million to secure the services of Neymar from Barcelona. Real never like to be shown up when it comes to high profile transfers. Kylian Mbappe might be about to become the latest in a long line of Galacticos.
