EA releases rookie ratings for upcoming Madden 18 to kick-off rating reveals
Days after the release of the official teaser for Madden 18, EA has begun to release player ratings. First, EA gave us a look at this year’s incoming rookie class. At this point in time however, the first round draft picks are the only players to have ratings released. Here are the top ten rookie ratings:
- Myles Garrett (83 overall)
- O.J. Howard (82)
- Leonard Fournette (81)
- Christian McCaffrey (81)
- Jamal Adams (81)
- Soloman Thomas (79)
- Corey Davis (79)
- Mike Williams (79)
- David Njoku (78)
- Tre’Davious White (78)
Coming as no surprise, Browns defensive lineman and No. 1 overall pick, Myles Garrett, is the highest-rated rookie in the game at an 83 overall. For experienced Madden users, Garrett is going to be a cheat code. As a rookie, he already ranks top ten in the game in terms of strength (96). Tack on insane acceleration (90) and speed (84), Garrett is going to be tough to stop.
Although the highest rated player didn’t surprise anybody, the next may. The second highest overall rating among rookies belongs to Tampa Bay tight end O.J. Howard. Howard’s 82 overall may come as a shock, considering he was drafted 19th.
Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey, who were widely regarded as the best running backs in the draft, both accumulated an 81 overall rating. Jamal Adams, the first defensive back off the board, also has an 81 rating. Only five rookies managed to make the cut with a rating of 80 or above.

For anyone analyzing the top ten rookie ratings, one thing may stand out. Where is Mitchell Trubisky, the No. 2 overall pick? You have to search outside the top ten (12) to find Trubisky, who is rated at 77 overall. Surprising as these ratings may be, they’re meant to stir up fans, spark discussion and promote the game after all, they seem to be doing just that.
