Ligue 1 champions Monaco deny that any deal for Kylian Mbappe is in place. They are looking to tie him down to a long term contract.
Things change quickly in the silly season that is the summer soccer transfer window. Yesterday the Spanish sports paper Marca claimed Real Madrid had struck a deal for Kylian Mbappe. The deal was to be worth 180 million Euros, so was not to be ignored.
Yet that is exactly what Monaco have done. Vadim Vasilyev, the club’s vice president, has dismissed reports there is a deal in place.

Real Madrid are not the only club who have shown an interest in the prodigious French international. Two months ago, Manchester United reportedly made a £72 million bid. Vasilyev may be speaking the truth when he says that no agreement has been struck, but there is clearly no shortage of interest.
With the player undoubtedly able to move on to bigger and better clubs, Monaco need to protect their investment. They are doing this by talking to Mbappe about a possible contract extension.

According to Transfermarkt, Mbappe currently has a contract in place until the end of the 2018-19 season. If true, it’s surprising the club are only now discussing a contract extension. Even if they can hang onto the highly sought after teenager for the forthcoming season, he would then be in an incredibly strong position to call the shots next summer.

A talent as fantastic as Mbappe doesn’t come along too often. Only the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez scored non-penalty goals in the league more often than Monaco’s young superstar did last season. The biggest clubs across the continent believe that Mbappe is a once in a generation talent. Monaco would do well to tie that talent down as soon as they possibly can.
