By John McCarty
The Minnesota Vikings reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension with Everson Griffen.
Coming off his second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and despite being under contract through the 2018 season, the Minnesota Vikings have extended defensive end Everson Griffen on a new four-year contract that should keep the 29-year-old pass rusher in Minnesota. The total value is $58 million, with $34 million in guarantees.
Griffen assumed the starting job in Minnesota in 2014 after entering the league as a fourth-round draft pick from USC in 2010. Since assuming the starting spot for the Vikings, Griffen has recorded 30.5 sacks, including eight during his 2016 campaign. For his career, Griffen has recorded 48 sacks and 234 tackles to go along with seven forced fumbles.
Griffen is scheduled to make a combined $15.3 million over the next two seasons. NOw, he’s going to be getting a large raise into the next decade.

The Vikings will certainly need the best from Griffin as they take aim at the NFC North. With the departure of running back Adrian Peterson and Sam Bradford returning for another season under center, there are still real questions about the offense. The division certainly appears to be strong, with Green Bay still led by Aaron Rodgers. Detroit will be also be a tough out as its hope to not only make the playoffs but make noise once they get there.
Offensively, the Vikings are hoping second-round pick Dalvin Cook can combine with the continued development of Stefon Diggs and emergence of Laquon Treadwell to make the offense formidable.
