Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada launched his first career major league home run against the the Chicago Cubs.

Let’s set the scene up, shall we? He’s a 22-year-old, who’s played in six games with the Chicago White Sox. He’s had 24 plate appearances in those games, with two hits so far. Most are anointing him as the next greatest thing to happen to White Sox baseball.

The White Sox have the neighboring Chicago Cubs in town — an age old rivalry with city bragging rights involved. So what does Yoan Moncada decide to do in this game? Blast the first major league home run of his young career.

It’s the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cubs are up 6-1 and White Sox fans are looking for something to cheer about. With two outs and in an 0-2 count, Moncada takes the pitch from Cubs’ ace Jake Arrieta and blasts it straight over the center field wall.

The crowd in Chicago erupted, as Moncada went around the bases for the first time in his major league career.

Moncada has only been with the team for six games, but it’s been a positive boost for the team, even if it hasn’t translated to wins. He’s just a 22-year-old, who will eventually start to turn up his play as he matures in the MLB.
